What crooked deeds did he commit
With his crooked hands?

Of how he came to be,

The Doctor's Silence

The Doctor stared at his TARDIS, eyes wide. "Master," he breathed.
oOoOoOoOo
Thumpthump thumpthump. The Doctor listened to his hearts beating, the only sound he could hear other than his steady breathing. He lay on the ground, the metal grillwork of the TARDIS floor pressing against the side of his face. Thumpthump thumpthump. The Master's face appeared before his closed eyes, and the Doctor felt both heartbeats speed up a little. The sound of drums, the beat stuck in the Master's head, so similar to the simple beating of a Time Lord's twin hearts.

(Classic example of me getting slightly stuck on the fics/poems I'm supposed to be working on and then suddenly getting inspiration for something completely different in the middle of the night XP)
Inspired mostly by the surprisingly emotional and moving - so much so that I genuinely cried - ending of the RPG 'The Crooked Man' (featuring the English nursery rhyme 'There Was a Crooked Man'), which really reminded me of the Master. Mix that with one of my head-canon scenarios (in which the Master falls back to Earth some time after EoT), one of my RPs with ~aragornsgirl333 (in which Ten saves him by giving him one of his lives) and our main RP (in which the Master struggles to cope once the drums are gone) and you get this
It's the first poem I've ever written that rhymes, so I'm really proud of it :3 And I definitely recommend watching a playthrough of TCM. You'll enjoy it (:
